Green Bean Casserole
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes
Serves: 4
Ingredients:
1 (2.8 oz) can French-fried onion rings
1 (10 3/4 oz) can cream of mushroom soup
3 cups chicken broth
2 cups fresh green beans
1/2 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
1/2 cup diced onions
1/3 stick butter
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
*Optional: You can hold the onion rings for last to use on top or fold them into the mixture. Also, sometimes I used more cheddar cheese on top and sometimes less. For a cheesy top layer, use the entire cup.
You will also need:
Large skillet
Small pot
1 1/2 quart baking dish
*If looking to serve a larger crowd, double this recipe and put into a 9x13” casserole dish. Baking time will remain the same.
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350 °F.
Melt the butter in a large skillet. Sauté the onions and mushrooms in the butter.
In a separate pot, boil green beans in chicken broth for 10 minutes and drain.
Add the green beans, mushroom soup, onion rings and salt and pepper to taste into the skillet. Stir well.
Pour mixture into a greased 1 1/2-quart baking dish.
Bake for 20 minutes, then top the casserole with the cheddar cheese and bake for 10 minutes longer, or until the casserole is hot and cheese is melted.
