Sunday French Toast
I didn’t grow up eating French Toast. In fact, I don’t think I’d ever heard of French Toast until my teenage years. I did, however, grow up eating Egg Toast, which is the exact same thing as French Toast.
I guess we were unsophisticated enough to just call it what it is, Egg Toast!
Whatever you call it, this Sunday French Toast recipe is perfect for breakfast or brunch. It is sweet and crunchy and would particularly be perfect for Christmas morning!
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes
Serves: 8
Ingredients:
6 eggs
½ cup half & half
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp cinnamon
2/3 cup sugar
8 slices of bread
1 stick butter (melted)
2 cups panko bread crumbs
Instructions:
Whisk together eggs, half & half, half of the sugar, and half of the cinnamon, in a shallow pan and set aside.
In a separate shallow pan, stir together panko bread crumbs, the remaining amount of sugar and cinnamon, and 4 tablespoons of melted butter.
Add the remaining butter to a nonstick skillet and heat over medium – low heat.
Dip each piece of bread into the egg mixture, turning to make sure each side is coated then lay the bread in the panko breadcrumbs, turning and pressing gently so the bread is coated with breadcrumbs.
Place each piece into the skillet of butter. Cook the first side for 5 minutes and the other side for 3 minutes over medium low heat. Keep a close eye and flip if breadcrumbs appear to be getting too dark.
Serve warm with syrup and/or softened butter.
