Sloppy Joe Sandwich

Sloppy Joes are the ultimate nostalgic comfort food. For me, they bring back memories of childhood dinners and messy smiles. They’re also a lifesaver for busy weeknights when you need something quick and satisfying.

In our family, Sloppy Joes come with a funny twist. My mom, who my kids lovingly call MawMaw, has a hilarious reputation for sneaking Manwich into just about anything. From spaghetti to chili to meatloaf, it’s her secret weapon for making dishes that leave everyone raving. Of course, we never reveal her secret ingredient, until now—it’s our family inside joke!

This simple Sloppy Joe recipe using Manwich is a nod to her clever kitchen magic and a reminder that sometimes, the best meals are the ones made with a little humor and a lot of love.

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: ~15 minutes
Total Time: About 20 minutes

Servings: 4

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey for a leaner option)

  • 1 can (15 oz) Manwich Original Sloppy Joe Sauce

  • 4 hamburger buns (toasted, if desired)

  • Optional toppings: shredded cheese, pickles, or coleslaw

You will also need:

  • Large Skillet

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Meat: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over MEDIUM heat until browned, breaking it up into crumbles as it cooks. Drain any excess grease.

  2. Add the Sauce: Reduce heat to LOW and stir in the can of Manwich sauce.

  3. Simmer for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until heated through and the flavors meld together.

  4. Assemble the Sloppy Joes: Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto the bottom half of each hamburger bun. Add any optional toppings like shredded cheese, pickles, or coleslaw for extra flavor. Top with the other half of the bun.

  5. Serve and Enjoy! Serve immediately with chips, fries, or a side salad.
