Cousin Kayla’s Cowboy Baked Beans

My cousin Kayla makes the Cowboy Baked Beans. She always asks what she should bring and the answer will always be, Cousin Kayla’s Cowboy Baked Beans.
If you don’t have a signature dish you can start bringing the baked beans. It is a hit at special occasions and for weeknight family dinners.

Yield: 12 servings
Ingredients:
3 28oz cans of Bush’s Baked Beans (original)
1lb ground beef
1 lb bacon
1 cup brown sugar
¼ cup Ketchup
2 tablespoons mustard
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 medium onion chopped
2 tablespoons chopped garlic
1 bell pepper diced
3 jalapenos diced
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons pepper
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Slice bacon into one inch pieces and saute in a large pan over medium to medium high heat for approximately 8-10 minutes or until crispy.
Remove bacon bits from pan and set aside.
Add ground beef, garlic, peppers, salt, pepper and onions to the pan and saute together on medium high heat for 7-10 minutes or until beef has browned.
Drain excess grease from the pan.
Add baked beans, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard and ketchup to ground beef and stir until combined.
Simmer on low to medium heat for 5 minutes to ensure that brown sugar has dissolved.
Transfer to a casserole dish, top with bacon bits and bake for an additional 10 minutes at 350 degrees F.
